When body odor gets tough, a trusty deodorant always comes in handy. But, anyone who's ever swiped on a conventional stick deodorant (or even a roll-on option) knows that they can come with a few pesky issues, like clothes-staining and gross residue. Well, your underarms deserve a lightweight, invisible deodorant spray, and thankfully we've found the very best for them.

Sure, a good old deodorant stick has its time and place, but spray formulas provide odor protection just like their solid counterparts sans the stains and white gunk in your pits, according to James Y, Wang, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based at Metropolis Dermatology in Los Angeles. "Deodorant sprays dry much quicker and decreases the chance of residue adhering to clothing," he says. In order to get the most out of your spray deodorant, Dr. Wang suggests shaking the container before applying and spraying it about two to three inches from the (hopefully, recently-cleansed) area of skin for approximately three seconds.

Before you start spraying, Dr. Wang would also like to note that stick deodorants tend to be gentler on sensitive skin in comparison to sprays, so easily-irritated skin types may want to opt out of these formulas. He also says that solid formulas provide a thicker layer than spray-on ones. Therefore, solids are more effective in masking odor — so if body odor is a major concern for you, stick to your deodorant sticks.

Looking for an ultra-light, long-lasting, and clear finish deodorant for your armpits? Say no more, because we found the very best for you to spritz — most of them being aerosol- and aluminum-free options, by the way — below.

You know a deodorant is good when it's crowned an Allure Best of Beauty winner. By Rosie Jane's Wake the F*ck Up Spray Deodorant has become the (un)official deodorant of the Allure team for its ultraclear finish and juicy, invigorating notes of grapefruit, lemon verbena, and eucalyptus. "It smells light and fresh — nothing like those sad, powdery scents of our teen years," says Allure site director Sam Escobar. "Plus, it dries quickly and doesn't leave streaks on your clothing."

White marks and buildup are a thing of the past, thanks to the Corpus Flora Spray Natural Deodorant. This aluminum- and baking soda-free deodorant utilizes enzymes derived from fermented vegetables along with anti-bacterial tea tree oil to reduce the smell and feel of sweat. As its name suggests, this deodorant is spiked with a fragrant blend of woody and floral essential oil-based notes including cedar, white musk, and jasmine.

Ursa Major's Sublime Sage Spray Deodorant has an earthy sage and geranium scent that you're bound to fawn over, but that's not the only reason why it deserves a spot in your personal care routine. Each and every spritz takes on odor-causing bacteria with the help of antibacterial lemon myrtle and exfoliating citric acid-derived triethyl citrate.

Allure commerce editor Sarah Han is also a fan of the invigorating, citrusy Hello Hinoki scent that's infused with jasmine, lemon tea tree, and hinoki (a type of evergreen tree commonly found in Japan that produces high levels of essential oils). "It's incredibly comfortable to wear because the dry-down is that immediate and the lingering (but not obnoxious) scent produces a relaxing effect," she says.

If you want to go the luxury route with your perspiration, allow us to introduce you to Chloé's Perfumed Deodorant Spray. This designer deodorant is a cool essential that opts out of aluminum and baking soda and instead focuses on disguising body odor with a wonderful powder-floral mix of peony, lychee, and freesia.

Surface Deep's Anti-Odorant Spray might be hard to find outside of Amazon's virtual shelves (the brand has no plans to be in stock at brick-and-mortar shops anytime soon), but this deodorant-body spray hybrid shouldn't be slept on. Allure commerce writer Jennifer Hussein truly can't get enough of its odor-eliminating magic, which works well on other areas that could use a refresh, like your feet. "I love that this unscented deodorant swaps out aluminum and baking soda for exfoliating glycolic acid," she says. “It leaves my pits feeling fresh and clean throughout the day without the nauseating scent of intense powders and florals.”

Aesop's Herbal Spray Deodorant is powered by witch hazel extract, an oil-balancing astringent that you're probably familiar with from your toner. You can also expect to catch whiffs of sage, lavender, and orange with each and every spritz of this ultra-light, transparent deodorant.

You're probably familiar with Weleda's affordable moisturizers, but the brand's Wild Rose 24h Deodorant Spray is definitely worth checking out, too. As its name suggests, this deodorant spray is spiked with a floral rose scent that acts as an aromatic veil for your smelliest parts. As its scent masks unwanted body odor, rose extract moisturizes your skin for softer, smoother pits.

This is a sign that your armpits deserve Chanel. The luxury label's Coco Mademoiselle Fresh Deodorant Spray contains the same amber, orange, and rose notes as the original perfume that it's inspired by, but it's also spiked with citric acid to exfoliate and balance odor-causing oil.

You won't find a drop of aluminum, artificial fragrances, or baking soda in Saje's Peaceful Warrior Deodorant Spray. This non-aerosol spray's base is actually salt, which absorbs oil and sweat with total ease. Its lightweight spray formula also has earthy, fruity hints of patchouli, lime, sandalwood, and lavender.

Yes, paying nearly $90 for a deodorant sounds wild, but hear us out: you're going to want to press checkout on Sisley Paris's Eau de Campagne Perfumed Deodorant. Its nature-inspired scent, which has notes of bergamot, tomato leaves, and jasmine, is intoxicatingly pleasant enough to wear as your usual fragrance. Plus, it contains moisturizing glycerin for velvety-soft skin in just a few spritzes.

Treat your pits with the Allure Best of Beauty-winning Jason Dry Spray Deodorant, an aluminum-free formula that feels light as air and utilizes oils derived from geranium, lemon, and tangerine to keep odors at a minimum. This deodorant spray also comes in two fragrances to try: the floral Delicate Soft Rose and vegetal Soothing Fresh Cucumber.

Those who love citrusy scents will adore Acqua Di Parma's Colonia Deodorant Spray. This aluminum-free spray starts with a burst of lemon, orange, and bergamot, then dries down to a warm, Earthy blend of vetiver, sandalwood, and patchouli.

If you don't mind the aluminum content of this antiperspirant option, Dr. Wang says the Dove Advanced Care Dry Spray Antiperspirant Deodorant is one of his favorite invisible dry sprays on the market — and its under-$10 price tag is definitely a bonus, too. He notes that this is one of the few options available for sensitive skin types to enjoy and he likes that this deodorant spray dries quickly without residue. This Dove antiperspirant option provides 48-hour protection against odor (due to the aluminum content) and moisturizes skin with conditioning sunflower seed oil.

Dr. Wang loves that Degree's Advanced Motionsense Antiperspirant Deodorant Spray lasts for up to 72 hours. It's one of the longest-lasting antiperspirants on the market, all due to the brand's proprietary Motionsense technology (which is powered by, you guessed it, aluminum) that activates through friction and movement. When activated, aluminum stops the sweat ducts from releasing sweat to the surface of the skin while sweet and floral notes of vanilla and jasmine conceal any residual funk.
